Beat The Clock Contest @ Ableton & SoundCloud

Ableton and SoundCloud’s collaboration enters a new stage with Beat the Clock, a contest that’s all in the timing. Atmospheric pop specialist M83, indie electronic stars Junior Boys and eclectic Los Angeles beat maker Nosaj Thing have contributed a Live Pack of samples and sounds to be used to create an original piece of music. Participants can combine the sounds from the Live Pack with their own sounds, plug-ins and instruments.

The catch: participants must work against the clock and submit their entries within 24 hours after downloading the Live Pack. SoundCloud and Live users will vote for their favorites entries, with the top 25 then judged by the three artists who will pick the ultimate winner.

Shure has announced National Open Mic Night for aspiring performers

In celebration of the company’s 87th Anniversary on April 25, Shure Incorporated announced today its inaugural National Open Mic Night, a week-long observance that will unite and encourage singers, musicians, and spoken word artists to take the mic and perform at venues across the United States from Sunday, April 22, to Saturday, April 28. A total of 23 bars, restaurants, and coffee shops, from New York City to Chicago to Los Angeles, have confirmed their participation.

“We hope this event becomes an annual occurrence that serves as a great way for us to commemorate our Company’s anniversary,” said Terri Hartman, Director of Marketing Communications for Shure Americas. “Our goal is to bring together artists and venues in a cohesive way, and to celebrate their talent.”

10th Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition now accepting entries

Shure Incorporated today announced that entries are being accepted for the 10th Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition. It will occur during the Montreux Jazz Festival, which takes place June 29-July 14, 2012, in Montreux, Switzerland.

The competition provides aspiring jazz singers the opportunity to perform in front of a professional jury and international audience. In past years, famous artists such as Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, and Patti Austin presided over the jury.

Sound vs. Sound Competition is ready to begin

Aqua+ announced today that pre-production has begun on its new creative competition series “Sound vs. Sound”. The announcement was made today by Scott Chadwick, Series Creator and Executive Producer for Sound vs. Sound. “With singing competition programming at the top of the ratings,” said Chadwick, “it is easy to overlook that the great songs are created by composers, mixed and structured by producers and engineers, and interpreted by arrangers.”

Sound vs. Sound is a competition series that focuses on testing the musical flexibility and creativity of producers, composers, arrangers, and musicians. Contestants in Season One will be established producers, musicians or composers, with subsequent seasons opening to emerging talent. Details on casting calls for emerging talent will be available on the AQUA+ website September 1, 2012.
