Power Attenuator for Guitar Amps from SPL

As a addition to its Power Soak product family and also to the active Transducer and Cabulator versions with speaker simulation, Sound Performance Lab has announced the availability of Reducer – a purely passive power attenuator for guitar amps. The ideea is simple. From now on, all sorts of amps, especially tube amps, can be overdriven without the need of having too loud.

How SPL Reducer works?

The Reducer, developed between SPL and German amp specialist Tonehunter, is placed between the guitar amp and the speaker. At this stage, it converts the amp’s electric power into heat. Power reduction with resistors requires no additional power supply, thus, “the passive principle guarantees an accurate sound reproduction without any influence on the frequency response curve. So yes, you could say that the Reducer is neutral,” states Jens Gronwald, Project Manager at SPL.
